Wildlife in Ngorongoro
The Ngorongoro Crater offers some of the best wildlife viewing in Africa as the steep Crater walls have created a secluded own Eco system.. All major animals can be seen throughout the year in the crater except for the giraffe, which is present in the Conservation Area, but not in the crater because of the steep slopes. The resident population of black rhino is a real treat, as rhino are very difficult to spot elsewhere in Tanzania.
Weather & Climate
Ngorongoro Conservation Area has a mild climate but it can freeze at night on the crater rim (altitude 2,300 meter). Dry Season is June to September/October with pleasant temperature on the crater floor and never too hot during daytime. Heavy and long rains between March and May, short rains can start in October and continue throughout November.
"It is impossible to give a fair description of the size and beauty of the Crater, for there is nothing with which one can compare it. It is one of the Wonders of the World"
The Best Time to Visit
You can spot wildlife down on the crater floor at any time of year. Especially in dry season (June to October) wildlife viewing inside the crater is great as the grasses on the crater floor are short and animals tend to gather conveniently around waterholes and rivers.
Ngorongoro Scenery
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area, as a whole, is stunningly beautiful. Aside from the well-known Ngorongoro Crater, Empakaai and Olmoti craters are scenic highlights as well. The forested rim of the Ngorongoro crater is in stark contrast with the crater floor, which consists mostly of grasslanc.
