Zanzibar
Tanzania Tropical Island
Zanzibar Island is a jewel in the ocean, surrounded by beaches that rate among the finest in the world. It's the ultimate Indian Ocean experience, with its fascinating historical Stone Town and magnificent beaches.
Here you can swim, snorkel or just lounge the hours away, while shoals of luminous fish graze over nearby coral gardens and pods of dolphins frolic offshore.
To the modern ear, Zanzibar is synonymous with coral beaches and lagoon-like seas dotted with dhows, as described by returning honeymooners and backpackers. In fact, the name stems from the words used by early Arab traders to describe the whole East African coast: zinj el barr, or "land of the blacks".

"Zanzibar is a marvel for the senses. Every sight and smell is provocative, inspiring a sense of the old and new."

Zanzibar History
The history of Zanzibar stretches far back. The presence of microlihic tools demonstrates that humans have occupied Zanzibar for about 20 000 years. The famous Greek geographer, Claudius Ptolemy, mentioned Zanzibar in his work which dated to about 150 C.E. Zanzibar was also part of a major trade route from the Roman Empire to the Indo-Chinese ports.
Weather & Climate
Being situated 6° south of the Equator just off the Indian Ocean coast of East Africa means the islands of Zanzibar enjoy a warm equatorial climate with reasonably constant daytime temperatures of 26°C.The main rains fall anytime from mid-March through to the end of May each year. There is a second much shorter rainy season in November.
What the island offers is a unique combination of outstanding beaches, along its eastern edge, interesting activities, such as visiting a working spice farm, and the cultural delights of Stone Town, with Arabian fortresses and minarets.
The Best Time to Visit
